WK12: Beta Code

Team Progress Most of the progress this week revolved around finishing what we can and must have for the beta code milestone. On that note, we have level 1 and 2 completed and functional, despite there being a lot of unexpected issues with our features to address for the gold code. Most of these issues involve having the game not behaving the way we intend it to, such as enemies not resetting when the player dies and the player's health not regenerating the way it is supposed to after taking on damage. Despite these issues, our current levels are functional and can be played through with caution and playtesting sessions proceeded at the end of the week. Level 3 is also in the works and our level designer has provided the team with detailed sketches that outline the plans for the gameplay in that final stage of the game. These plans, along with the observations and feedback comments we received, were included in the GDD and playtesting report that we submitted for the milestone.

My Contribution As the majority of the assets were already finished, most of my work done this week involved overseeing the team's progress for the milestone. Along with another team member, I also helped select the music we were going to include in the beta code. I will continue to search for more sounds as the game could still benefit from having more. Other tasks include writing internal reviews for each iteration of the code and conducting a playtesting session for the beta prototype after all the coding was done. Lastly, I was the editor for all the documents we had to hand in for the milestone. Reflection Progress was steady this week and we finished the work we needed to with some time to spare thanks to the deadline extension the class was given. I'm glad to see that our playtests for this milestone were finally able to focus more on gameplay. Subjects weren't too centered on debugging the game as they were for previous iterations, which allowed us to receive more insightful comments regarding how our project actually felt as a game. Overall, we got through most of what we wanted to get through, but there were still a few unexpected outcomes that I feel will greatly take away from the time we have left to handle the final encounter we hope to implement. We may want to consider simplifying any more plans we intend to bring to life so that we could finish what we can in the week we have before the term ends.
