WK2: Improving A Game

Team Progress

Our team was able to meet up and talk about the direction of our game. With the critique we received in mind, we went over ways to create a thrilling and suspenseful experience for our players by considering what our game was currently lacking. So far, we were able to add exciting new mechanics relating to stealth and distraction so that players now have multiple ways of approaching enemies and clearing levels. We also modified our narrative and went over other aspects of our game that we haven't discussed before the proposal presentation (ex: HUD/interface design, etc).

My Contribution

As per my contribution, I helped brainstorm with my team for ways we could improve our game and make both the narrative we have so far and the expected gameplay to be more compelling. I helped type up the new content we came up with and organized our ideas into a document, which I continued to update with suggestions and plans after our meeting had concluded. Based on what we've deliberated, I managed to draw some more concept art for our future assets to help our team with the visual aspect of our game, which we still have left to discuss more in detail.

Reflection

I'm quite proud of the progress we made today. I feel that we have a much better understanding of how we want the end result to be like, which gives me confidence in the work that we will have to face once we start building our game. However, something that we were still not able to decide on this week is our art style. We all have a general consensus for what it may look like, but we've found it difficult to decide on a specific visual aesthetic. This is because we have been prioritizing establishing the actual structure of our game (i.e. mechanics, interactions, outcomes, etc). We will be able to overcome that hurdle this upcoming week because we can now focus on details such as visuals, animations, and sounds after having gone through what we want for the functional foundations of the game.
